DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL

Mr. Munanura Andrew Karokora
 

The Director General of UNAFRI is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Munanura Andrew Karokora as Deputy Director General following a rigorous selection process last week. Appointment approved by the Government of Uganda, Chairman of the UNAFRI Board of Directors, Mr. Karokora will assume office on July 1, 2024. With extensive expertise in crime prevention, criminal justice and treatment of offenders, Mr. Karokora is ready to advance UNAFRI's mission across Africa. The Director General expresses confidence in his leadership and dedication to the objectives of UNAFRI. Congratulations to Mr. Munanura Andrew Karokora on his new appointment.

UNAFRI is an entity of the United Nations system which presents itself as a satellite body of the United Nations Commission for Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice at the regional level. This Commission itself is subordinate to the Economic and Social Council of Nations United.

As the window of United Nations Crime Prevention strategies and framework to Africa, the Institute derives its legitimacy for its operations from the needs of Member States in Crime Prevention, particularly as Crime has been noted to be a major impediment to sustained social development.
