The United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFRI) has launched The African Youth Crime Prevention Platform, a weekly X Spaces dialogue series aimed at engaging young people across the continent on issues affecting their safety, development, and future.
The platform will provide a space for open and informed discussions on some of the most pressing challenges facing African youth today, while promoting crime prevention, social responsibility, and constructive solutions. Through conversations with experts, practitioners, policymakers, and young people themselves, the initiative seeks to amplify youth voices and encourage greater participation in shaping safer and more resilient communities.
Held every Friday from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM (EAT) on UNAFRI’s official X account (@UNAFRI21), the series will explore a wide range of topics including sex and crime, drug abuse, alcoholism, youth migration, financial crimes, cybercrime, juvenile delinquency, unemployment, and poverty.
The inaugural session, scheduled for Friday, 12 June 2026, will examine the topic:
“Sex at Universities: Crime or Pleasure?”
The discussion will bring together experts and practitioners to explore the legal, social, and behavioural dimensions surrounding sexual relationships within university environments. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a balanced conversation on issues such as consent, exploitation, sexual violence, transactional sex, campus safety, and the broader implications for crime prevention and youth wellbeing.
The launch of The African Youth Crime Prevention Platform reflects UNAFRI’s continued commitment to promoting evidence-based crime prevention strategies and empowering young people to become active partners in addressing the challenges affecting their communities.
As Africa continues to experience a rapidly growing youth population, meaningful dialogue and engagement remain essential to building a safer, more just, and prosperous future for all.
Young Voices. Real Issues. Safer Africa.
Join the conversation every Friday at 7:00 PM (EAT) on @UNAFRI21.
