The United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders visited the headquarters of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where UNAFRI Acting Director General Mr Munanura Andrew Karokora met the President of the ICC, Her Excellency Lady Justice Akane Tomoko. Their discussion focused on moving the UNAFRI/ICC partnership towards implementation, with particular attention to capacity building and training in Africa.

The visit follows an inaugural high-level meeting between the two institutions on 21st October 2025 and the subsequent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The memorandum established a framework for cooperation in outreach, capacity building, research and related areas intended to strengthen engagement with African justice institutions and practitioners.

It also builds on the courtesy visit to UNAFRI headquarters in Kampala on 17th June 2026 by Mr. Anbuen Scott Naidoo, Head of the ICC Field Office in Uganda. That engagement explored practical areas of collaboration, including knowledge exchange, technical exchanges, joint forums and policy dialogue.

The discussion in The Hague carried that work forward at the leadership level by concentrating on how the agreed partnership can support training and institutional capacity across Africa.
