UNAFRI Explores Capacity Building Partnership with Uganda Police Forensic Services

On Tuesday, 26th June 2026, the United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFRI) hosted ACP Andrew Mubiru, Ag. Director of Forensic Services at the Uganda Police Force, for a courtesy visit aimed at exploring potential areas of collaboration in capacity building and training.

The discussions focused on strengthening institutional cooperation in key aspects of criminal investigations, with emphasis on enhancing forensic service delivery and broader investigative support systems. Both institutions underscored the importance of continuous skills development across the criminal justice value chain to improve the effectiveness and reliability of investigations.

UNAFRI, in line with its mandate to support Member States in crime prevention and criminal justice reform, reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with law enforcement agencies to design practical, evidence-based training programmes aligned with emerging crime challenges.

The engagement identified several potential areas of collaboration, including forensic science training, crime scene management, and investigative capacity development.

The visit concluded with a shared interest in developing structured cooperation frameworks to strengthen institutional capacity within Uganda’s policing and forensic services.
