The agreement strengthens institutional cooperation in crime prevention, social justice and the development of effective justice systems and stronger institutions.

The United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFRI) and the Platform for Social Justice (PSJ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 22 September 2026, marking a new step in cooperation between the two institutions.
The MoU is intended to strengthen institutional cooperation and collaboration in areas of shared interest. It reflects the organisations' common commitment to advancing crime prevention, promoting social justice, supporting effective justice systems and contributing to stronger institutions.

Through the partnership, UNAFRI and PSJ will be better positioned to share knowledge and strengthen institutional capacity. These forms of cooperation are important to the development of practical responses that support safer and more just communities across Africa.
For UNAFRI, the MoU forms part of its continuing effort to build partnerships that advance its regional mandate in crime prevention and criminal justice. The collaboration with PSJ provides a foundation for closer engagement in support of stronger institutions and communities where justice is accessible and effective.
