On 9 September 2025, a high-level delegation from the Office of the Special Presidential Assistant on Anti-Corruption at the State House visited the Director General of the United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFRI) at his offices in Naguru, Kampala.
The delegation, led by Ms Rebecca Atwiine and accompanied by Mr Joel Jerry Walyono and Ms Faith Nandago, engaged in constructive discussions with UNAFRI’s leadership to identify strategic areas of cooperation in the fight against corruption. The meeting focused on strengthening anti-corruption efforts through capacity building, specialised training programmes, joint research initiatives, and the promotion of international collaboration.
During the visit, Ms Atwiine conveyed the Head of State's appreciation and encouragement, and she expressed gratitude to UNAFRI for its efforts in enhancing Uganda's criminal justice sector. Both parties showed optimism about strengthening their partnership, emphasising the importance of utilising expertise and resources to effectively combat corruption across the country.
The courtesy call highlights the government’s commitment to building strong institutional alliances, promoting accountability, and improving professional skills in the pursuit of a corruption-free society. Further interactions between the State House anti-corruption unit and UNAFRI are expected in the coming months, with the aim of developing joint action plans and achieving meaningful results in the anti-corruption effort.
