UNAFRI’s Research and Policy Development Advisor, Professor Maicibi Alhas presents a captivating paper titledTrends and Phases in Corrections in Africa” during the 2nd Biennial Correctional Services Association (ACSA) Conference on 3rd October, 2012

The nature of the topic called for a mere narration of how African Correctional practice has evolved over the years. The Presenter was mindful of this, but went ahead to add knowledge by prescribing the most potent phase of proactiveness in correction on a paradigm shift from the current reactive Correctional Practice. This is correcting outside the institutional facility- an additional qualification of the common Community Correction.

The paper then exhorted the Correctional Services to see Crime Prevention as part of their duty that- this will reduce the number of inmates in facilities and consequently improves Correctional Programming and ensure inmates’ human rights observance.

The most fascinating were the last four slides that reveal

1) Maicibi’s Generic Formula for fighting Crime

2) The Prisons Refinery, and

3) The Prison Tree

No wonder, the Conference Communiqué drew five (5) points from only this presentation. Please read the entire novelty presentation here
