Alhas (PhD) has received a
Fellow Award from the Uganda
Society on Dec 18, 2007 during
a National Conference on Uganda
Society, Science and Technology
for Universities and Research
Institutions.
The Award is in recognition of his outstanding contribution
to the world of knowledge for the development of society.
Other awardees at the event included Ham Mukasa Mulira, (PhD)
Hon. Minister, Ministry of Information and Communications
Technology (ICT) and Alex Tindimubona, (PhD), Chief, Science
and Technology Section (STS), ICT and Science and Technology
Division (ISTD), Economic Commission for Africa.

Director on a Consultative
mission to the Governing
Board Chairman
The Head of Mission, Dr. Masamba Sita, traveled on a 6-day
Consultative Mission to Khartoum, Sudan from the 15 – 21
Feb.2008 to visit the Chairman of UNAFRI Governing Board,
H.E. Abdal Basset Sabdrat, Hon. Minister of Justice & Attorney
General, Republic of Sudan.
The Minister of State, Ministry of
Justice, Wek Mamer Kuol and the UNAFRI Desk Officer
in Sudan, Mr. Yassir Bashir El- Boukhari, received
the Head of Mission on behalf of the Chairman.
In their discussions, salient issues concerning
the activities of the Institute were discussed.
Some of those issues included: the dates for the
10th Ordinary Session of the Institute’s
Governing Board to be held in Khartoum, Sudan,
as earlier proposed during the third Extra – Ordinary
Meeting of the Governing Board held in Kampala,
Uganda last year.
It was agreed that the meeting should take place
from the 19 – 20 May 2008.
In addition, the Chairman signed letters of Invitation
to Member States for the forthcoming meeting of
the Governing Board. The Chairman has signed letters
of Invitation to the remaining African countries
that have not yet adhered to the UNAFRI Statue
of Membership too.

Besides, as it is the practice of the Institute’s
Secretariat, Letters to Member States requesting
them to pay their due contribution to UNAFRI has
been signed by the Chairman.
After the meeting, Dr. Masamba Sita, extended
the deepest appreciation of Members of Staff of
the Institute to the Sudanese government through
the chairman for the warm and cordial reception
accorded to him during his visit.
He also extended appreciation to the UNAFRI desk
Officer in the Republic of Sudan, Mr. El- Boukhari,
for all his assistance during the Head of Mission’s
visit to the Republic of Sudan.

Financial Account Audited |
A Three
man Auditing Committee members have audited the Institute’s
Financial Accounting book. The Auditing members who
were in the UNAFRI’s secretariat for 21 days
were drawn from countries of Nigeria, Rwanda and
sudan.

Auditors:
The Auditors at work at the secretariat. Sitting with
them are: Mr. John Ssali Sembuya, the Finance
and Administration Officer and Ms Sarah Musoke,
the Finance and Administration Assistant, both
officials of UNAFRI

In presenting their
report to the management of UNAFRI, the chairman
of the Auditing team, the representative of the Republic
of Rwanda, Mr. Godwin thanked the staff of UNAFRI
for the warm reception, cooperation and hospitability
given to them during their work at the Institute
He said, “We are so grateful
for all the cooperation given to us. Most especially,
it has really been a fruitful experience working
with the Accounting staff of UNAFRI. The Accounting
staff really did their jobs so well and even made
ours very simple too”.
Speaking further, Mr. Godwin said they found no financial
misappropriations in all the records submitted to them
to audit.
He therefore enjoined the Institute
to keep up the good work it is doing in the continent.
Receiving the financial Report, the Head of Mission
UNAFRI, Dr. Masamba Sita expressed his deepest and
sincere appreciation to the team for coming to the
Institute and audit its accounts.
He said the Institute would always
make sure to keep a transparent and accountable
policy in all its dealings.Dr Sita concluded by
wishing them a safe journey back to their respective
countries.
